Franciscan University of Steubenville, OH, with a faith-based educational tradition that has withstood the test of time, has built its campus with the same commitment to strength and integrity.

A recent expansion of the campus added 11,236 square feet to the J.C. Williams Center – affectionately nicknamed the “living room” of the campus. The facility was renovated and expanded to accommodate an 82 percent growth in student population since the original facility was built in 1971. New meeting rooms, student study areas, enlarged restrooms, a new elevator, central staircase and mezzanine are now integral features of the distinctive space as a result of the expansion.

One of the design challenges for the project was to create an addition to an existing building that looked and felt entirely new, while fitting in visually with the other buildings on campus.

Follansbee’s TCS II met this challenge, lending modern aesthetic appeal to the newly expanded structure while functioning as a durable, long-lasting metal roofing solution. TCS II additionally tops four other buildings on campus, including the Kolbe/Clare Residence Halls, Finnegan Field House and the Saints Cosmas and Damian Science Hall.

TCS II is an architectural stainless steel coated with Follansbee's patented ZT® (zinc/tin) alloy. As a result of Follansbee’s extensive metallurgic research, TCS II does not require painting, is designed to weather naturally to an attractive gray patina, and can withstand severe corrosive conditions including industrial, coastal and salt-water environments. Follansbee offers nine pre-formed profiles for metal roofing, including six standing seam profiles, but the highly versatile TCS II can be tailored into a variety of design forms, from the traditional standing seam roof to a vertical wall, barrel applications, shingles, and customized sections in flat or spherical shapes. TCS II is solderable and virtually maintenance-free.
